FAQ’S
Are True products certified organic? We are very proud that all True products are created using organically sourced and locally wild crafted ingredients directly from Mother Nature. These products include the Wonder Balm, Courage Face Mist, Serene Face Oil, Wisdom Exfoliate & Mask, Awaken Facial Cleansing Oil and Nourish Body Oil, with most products containing over 90% certified organic ingredients.
Do your products contain preservatives? We do not add any preservatives, not even those approved for use in certified organic skincare because we are not satisfied with their safety, due to them being of a synthetic nature. Our products are preservative free because they have been formulated without water. We are researching natural plant based preservative systems for the future and watching the clinical results of their effectiveness on nasties such as bacteria and fungi before we would incorporate into our own products. Here at True we are all about safety first to you our customer.
Please Note: Vitamin E and Grapefruit seed extract are not preservatives. They are antioxidants. If you come across these ingredients claiming to be the natural preservative in your skincare products and they contain water you are potentially exposing the health and safety of your skin to unseen bacteria, molds and fungi. It is a matter of buyer beware.
Will I experience a skin reaction from True skin care? Some customers may notice slight, short term skin reactions as they begin integrating True products into their skincare rituals. This is a normal result of the detoxification process that occurs with a shift to natural and organic products. As the skin adjusts to the benefits of organic, whole plants, it may experience a mild, temporary reaction to the purity of True treatments. Customers experiencing longer-term skin reactions (more than four weeks) should discontinue the use of True and consult their health care professional.
What if I am allergic to plants and flowers? Known Sensitives in some People Possible dermal reactions may occur in the form of irritation, sensitization, phototoxicity reflected in blotchy, red, painful skin. This can be in the form of a weak through to sever reaction. Should irritation occur remove product from skin immediately with a tissue or cloth and apply a plain vegetable oil such olive oil from your pantry. Consult your health professional.

Why do True products scents vary? Like fine vintage wines, each batch of our essential oil blends are as unique as the year’s plant harvests. Our product scents may evolve over time and are often their most potent when first applied to the skin, softening on the skin a few moments after application. The more immediate strength of our scents is an important indication of both the freshness and potency of our whole plant ingredients.
What are antioxidants? Antioxidants protect the skin by limiting the production of free radicals, which can damage skin cells. In skin care products antioxidants can do a lot for the health and appearance of your skin, including reducing the signs of ageing. From calming inflamed skin to tightening and toning, antioxidants from natural sources offer exceptional benefits for the skin. eg) Vitamin E.
What is a hydrosol The word hydrosol is a chemistry term meaning “water solution” Derived from Latin hydro – water, Sol for solution. Can be applied to any aqueous solution. In the world of aromatherapy, hydrosols are also known as hydrolates, floral waters, and plant waters. Often slightly milky, due to the nature of various plant substances and essential oils left in the water after the distillation process. Hydrosols can come from flowers, roots, bark, branches, wood, needles and leaves, even fruit and seeds can produce both oils and hydrosols so not strictly just flowers.
Essentially the definition could be “hydrosols are condensate water coproduced during the steam or hydro-distillation of plant material for aroma-therapeutic purposes.” Every litre of hydrosol contains between 0.05 and 0.2 milliliter of dissolved essential oil, depending on the solubility of the plants components and the distillation parameters.
How long does it take to see results with True skin care? Our skins cell turnover is approximately 20 days and increases up to 30 days as we become older and wiser. It is best to use our products for a full calendar month in order to see an improvement in your skin’s radiant health.
How should I store True products? Like all skincare products heat will speed up the oxidation of the oils and will likely melt your balm. Keep out of direct sunlight below 30C to preserve Mother Nature’s gifts and the life of the product.
They prefer to be kept cool and preferably in a dark place. Always replace the caps/lids and keep water out!
During warm weather, it is normal for the balms to become a little softer and a slight separation of oils may occur. Do not worry, this is normal and does not affect the quality of the product. Simply pop your balms in the fridge for an hour to harden if you wish.
What is the shelf life of True products once opened? As our products are preservative free and have been formulated without water, as long as no water is introduced into the product the shelf life is between 6- 12 months from the date of manufacture. Once opened please use your products within 6 months for optimum potency and efficiency.
You will find a batch number on the bottom of each product and the best-after-opening symbol (look for a small symbol representing an opened jar) is printed on the packaging and product information that accompany all True products.

Are your products vegan? All products are- except our Wonder Balm which contains a small amount of locally sourced organic beeswax.
What are the differences between essential oils and botanical plant extracts? Essential oils are distilled from the parts of the plant, flower, bark, leave into a potent highly concentrated oil also known as aromatherapy. Botanical plant extracts are infused plant parts in their dry/ fresh form infused in plant oils to extract the therapeutic constituents from the plant and do not contain essential oils.
Is all True packaging recyclable? We strive to use environmentally responsible materials as much as possible. All our miron violet glass packaging is recyclable or reusable. We have chosen to present our products bare without expensive outer boxes and to minimise waste and mother nature’s resources. Our swing tags are printed on recyclable paper along with our boxes. We are always revisiting our footprint and ways to be a more sustainable business.
Why are some the ingredients difficult to pronounce? We have listed all the ingredients using the INCI (international cosmetic labeling) system. Even though they don't always sound the best we use this INCI labeling system for transparency and to be true to our customers. You!
Does True test on animals? No, our products are cruelty-free, tested on consenting humans only.
Why don’t True products contain any sunscreen? We believe adding an SPF factor to our products would compromise the integrity and effectiveness of our formulas.
What ingredients do you not use in true skin care?
At True, we believe that the natural world provides us with all the goodness our skin needs.
We say NO to:
- No Water. Standard skin care formulas can contain up to 85% water. We have chosen our own path of offering a range of water less skincare products embracing the potency and purity of plant botanicals.
- No preservatives- see above
- No Alcohol.Often used as a preservative in natural skin care creams, ethyl alcohol (usually listed as 'alcohol denat.' on the label) can dry out the skin and cause potential irritations.
- No Parabens. While the safety concerns relating to parabens and cancer have been proved, they have not yet been disproved, which is why we take a precautionary approach and do not use them.
- No Phenoxyethanol. This chemical preservative is commonly used in natural skin care ranges that have chosen not to incorporate parabens into their formulations. However, it is a skin irritant and has recently been banned for use in certified organic skin care products by Ecocert.
- No Petrochemicals.Petrochemicals include chemical ingredients that are derived from petroleum. Propylene Glycol is one of the more common petrochemicals used in skincare products for its moisturising properties, however it is a common skin irritant and may trigger eczema.
- No Phthalates.Commonly used as a fixative for fragrances, phthalates are often absent from ingredient labels as many companies use "parfum" rather than list it separately. There are serious safety concerns surrounding this product in regard to reproductive health.
- No Artificial fragrances. These often contain phthalates and other irritating chemicals. They are the most frequent cause of allergic reactions to cosmetics.
- No Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. This foaming agent is a harsh skin irritant and a bad trigger of skin allergies.
